About Miss Kitty 's Meow
Miss Kitty's Meow is one of the few Burlesque/Cabaret dance troupes within Tasmania, and is at the forefront of the Burlesque revival within Tasmania. The girls have their own unique take on the burlesque scene and combine their love for the tease with a variety of dance styles.
History of Miss Kitty's Meow
Miss Kitty's Meow was formed by a trio of close friends; all of who shared a passion for dance, burlesque and vintage glamour. After performing within and alongside a number of burlesque groups in Tasmania the girls decided it was time to form a troupe of their own.
The name, Miss Kitty's Meow, was chosen to demonstrate their attraction to the glamour of yesteryear and their affinity with the chorus line 'Kit Kat' dancers from Cabaret. The name encapsulates the girls two main loves: burlesque glamour and Cabaret's naughtiness and humor.
About Burlesque and Cabaret Performance
The word burlesque often conjures up images of female strippers or scantily clad women. For Miss Kitty's Meow, burlesque means so much more. The girls all know that burlesque is an art form that has been around for many years, and was particularly popular from the mid 1800s through to the 1960s.
Whilst the (strip) tease is most widely associated with Burlesque, Miss Kitty's girls enjoy a wider interpretation of this art form. Involving a blend of comedy, dance, pin-up costumes (and yes some sex appeal and tease) the girls have created their own blend of burlesque.
